Electrostatic discharge can damage integrated circuits or semiconductors if you touch bus connector pins. Follow these guidelines when you handle the module: • Touch a grounded object to discharge static potential. • Wear an approved wrist-strap grounding device. • Do not touch the bus connector or connector pins. • Do not touch circuit components inside the module. • If available, use a static-safe work station. • When not in use, keep the module in its static-shield box.
Remove power before removing or installing this module. When you remove or install a module with power applied, an electrical arc may occur. An electrical arc can cause personal injury or property damage by: • sending an erroneous signal to your system’s field devices, causing unintended machine motion • causing an explosion in a hazardous environment • causing permanent damage to the module’s circuitry Electrical arcing causes excessive wear to contacts on both the module and its mating connector. Worn contacts may create electrical resistance.
Pollution Degree 2 is an environment where, normally, only non-conductive pollution occurs except that occasionally a temporary conductivity caused by condensation shall be expected. (2) Over Voltage Category II is the load level section of the electrical distribution system. At this level transient voltages are controlled and do not exceed the impulse voltage capability of the product’s insulation. (3) Pollution Degree 2 and Over Voltage Category II are International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) designations.
Do not remove protective debris strip until after the module and all other equipment near the module is mounted and wiring is complete. Once wiring is complete and the module is free of debris, carefully remove protective debris strip. Failure to remove strip before operating can cause overheating.

The following POINT I/O modules are referred to in this publication: • 1734-VHSC5, Series C, POINT I/O 5V DC very high-speed counter module • 1734-VHSC24, 1734-VHSC24K, Series C, POINT I/O 24V DC very high-speed counter module The VHSC is a two-module set: • Module 1 houses the VHSC functionality. • Module 2 provides screw terminals necessary to access chassis ground (chas gnd) and common (C). - Module 2 connects screws 4 and 5 and screws 6 and 7 for ease of wiring power to the input device. - Module 2 is not necessary for VHSC functionality. - Module 2 serves only to ease customer wiring. - Module 2 does not use a node address or consume power from the POINTBus™. Mount module 2 adjacent to module 1. Note that this POINT I/O series C product can be used with the following: • DeviceNet® and PROFIBUS adapters • ControlNet® and EtherNet/IP™ adapters, using Studio 5000 Logix Designer® application version 20 or higher

The Remote I/O (RIO) Scanner, 1747-SN, enables communication between an SLC™ processor and remotely located 1746 I/O chassis and other RIO-compatible Allen-Bradley operator interface and control devices. The 1747-SN scanner communicates with remote devices using the A-B Remote I/O link. The RIO link consists of a single master (scanner) and multiple slaves (adapters). Communication between devices occurs over twisted-pair cable with the devices daisy-chained together. Maximum distance for remote communication is 3,048m (10,000 ft.). The scanner is compatible with any standard RIO adapter device. The SLC processor transfers a maximum of 4 logical racks (32 input and 32 output image words) of discrete remote I/O data into the SLC input and output image files. You can adjust the size of the scanner image files during configuration of your SLC system so that the scanner only transfers the discrete I/O data required by your application program. The 1747-SN Series B or later RIO Scanner can be configured to transfer up to 64 words of data to a remote device via block transfer. Refer to publication 1747-6.6, Remote I/O Scanner User Manual, for information on configuration, programming, and block transfers. The SLC 500™ processor (SLC 5/02 or higher) supports multiple scanners in its local I/O chassis. Considerations for a Modular System Place your module in any slot of an SLC 500 modular, or modular expansion chassis, except for the left-most slot (slot 0) reserved for the SLC processor or adapter modules. Considerations for a Fixed Controller The power supply in the 2-slot SLC 500 fixed I/O chassis (1746-A2) can support only specific combinations of modules. Make sure the chassis power supply can support the 1746-NT8 and additional module power requirements. Selecting A Chassis Slot Two factors determine where you should install your module in the chassis: ambient temperature and electrical noise. When selecting a slot for your module, try to position your module: • in a chassis close to the bottom of the enclosure (where the air is cooler) • away from modules that generate significant heat, such as the 1746-OA16 or the 1746-IA16 • in a slot away from ac or high-voltage dc modules, hard contact switches, relays, and ac motor drives • away from the chassis power supply (if using a modular system) Remember that in a modular sy
